Advanced New Media Production

NMIX 6020

Following the completion of my first semester in Summer 2022 within this program, I was excited to learn more about web development. However, I was also nervous about taking NMIX 6020. I enjoyed learning about web development topics, such as HTML, CSS and WordPress, but JavaScript was my biggest challenge.

I knew, for Advanced Web Development, we would dive deeper into the subject of JavaScript. I was hesitant, but I accepted the challenge.

Overall, this course challenged me to think outside of the (flex)box and to incorporate new, creative ways to display information.

We revisited topics that were learned in the introductory course such as, creating lists, styling using CSS and using Flexbox. We learned new topics, such as animation, API, extracting JSON data and Vue.

Before becoming a member in this program, I never realized how many possibilities one can do with a simple web page. For my final project, I wanted to revisit an idea that I had for my final project in NMIX 6010. I created a WordPress website for a fictional magazine that I would, one day, like to make a reality.

Although I did love how that website looked (at the time), I wanted to challenge myself and build it myself. So, I decided to try again. This time, I incorporated ideas from topics learned in NMIX 6010, NMIX 6020 and NMIX 6011 (New Media Design).

For the final project website, I included forms, music playlist, countdown until the next issue of the fictional magazine, text animation and a scroll-to-top button. This process relied heavily on CSS styling and the use of JavaScript (yes, JavaScript!).
